I think many of us have been feeling for a long time that our way of life has become unsustainable. The past 12 months I felt a deep uneasiness, like something was going to snap - I know I’m not the only one.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ If our only focus is on politics and anxiety, we are missing a big opportunity to think about how our individual actions have damaged our planet. The virus is just bringing this into focus, at a tragic cost to human life. ⁣ ⁣ Those of us lucky enough to stay home - we have the luxury of time to think about the part we play in this. ⁣⁣ Tonight I’m writing a list of my own actions that have caused damage to our planet. I’m also thinking about how to live and work differently once this is over.⁣ NB. A selfie doesn’t feel appropriate for this post but people often scroll past stuff that doesn’t have a face or a butt on it so forgive me! ⁣⁣ ‘It’s said that respecting the earth costs money. We are living the final stages of a very deceitful system that has made everything that is costly for the planet look cheap for the consumer. Very costly production that kills the girls in Bangladesh is made to look like cheap clothing. This is fake cheap.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I don’t think the planet will die - the earth is too powerful. She’s lived through hotter times, colder times, she’s lived with dinosaurs, without dinosaurs, she’s lived with human beings, without human beings - We are dispensable. She’ll find a way’ - Vandana Shiva⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Love,⁣ Marina

10 year anniversary of “The Family Jewels”.⁣ ⁣ Hard to describe my feelings when I think back to that time. It was difficult. I was not prepared for the amount of criticism my music provoked from the British press at the time. The landscape looked very different for female artists who were not coming from a manufactured girl band format. What I’ve since learned is that every album I’ve released has received criticism, but that’s what happens when you think in a different way. Not everyone is open to receiving new thoughts. People like safety. People (press) HATED Electra Heart - and now it seems to be the fan favourite. All I can say is that becoming an artist gave me a big gift. The opportunity to know myself and the chance to speak.⁣ ⁣ Thank you! ⁣ ⁣ In particularly to nick Worthington for signing me - a miracle as I did not look or sound like a major label prospect when he discovered me! - and @neongoldrecords for plotting, collaborating and supporting me since day 1.⁣ ⁣ PS Swipe for the album cover that almost made it. 🎨

Now on sale! Unofficially calling this ‘the inbetweenie tour’ cause I’m in between albums and I never usually tour in this period... So, anything could happen. I could wear sweatpants onstage. I could do a TED talk on fandoms. I could play a new song. I could just sing Britney Spears covers all night? (Sadly I won’t). Tickets now on sale. VIP packages limited to 100 per night. Looking forward to performing in cities I’ve never played before! Link in bio. 🎫

I started getting silver / grey hairs around 15 years old. I’ve been dying my hair since I was 22 because I literally thought I had no other option. Grey equalled old to me - something most women are told is a bad, bad thing. Anything that symbolised this simply HAD to be covered! Anyway, recently I’ve felt differently. I want to be my natural hair colour. If silver hair really = being old then people in their teens, twenties and thirties wouldn’t get them. Evolution-wise I think it’s more likely to just signal being an adult... ⁣ Anyway, this post is a) for my own self-encouragement 💅🏼 b) for the encouragement of others dealing with the same beauty industry BS c) to give you all a heads up that if I have crazy roots for a while, this is why 😂 I hope to make it some kind of balayage-highlight-whatever at some point to help it grow out less crazily. But really I’m just looking forward to being my natural colour. ⁣ ⁣ As a side note - what kick-started this decision were the headaches and feeling of sickness I got from dyes. I used organic dye and I found out it was still filled with carcinogenic chemicals. I’m not putting my body through that for anything. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Thanks to these hashtags for the inspo: so many young women making this change and I’m full of admiration. #SilverSisters #grombre
