Photo by @beverlyjoubert | Whether you call it social distancing, quarantine, or self-isolation, keeping away from others is what we’re being called to do in order to slow the spread of the coronavirus. The importance of this cannot be overstated. Yet we humans are inherently social creatures, so isolation from our friends and communities can be challenging and unpleasant.
The natural world offers us great examples to follow. Having spent countless hours observing an animal that enthusiastically embraces solitude, I can attest to solitude's many benefits. For leopards, a solitary lifestyle is the perfect fit. Impressively self-sufficient, they enjoy the lack of confrontation and perks (like peaceful naps) that come with being masters of their own turf. As we humans retreat into our personal spaces, the leopard's lifestyle is one we should emulate … at least for now. #leopards #bigcats #socialdistancing
