Is the breakfast cereal we've watched since we were kids the healthiest breakfast option a person should have? . . Marketing and TV shows make us assume the it actually is the best option. But, if you look closely at cereals boxes and read the nutrition labels and ingredients, you will notice that sugar is most of the times the second ingredient used in the list. This doesn't mean that one is not allowed to indulge in some milk and cereal breakfast every now and then. However, don't tend to make it a daily routine. . . Even cereals that are advertised as healthy might also contain several sources of sugar. In order to choose the healthiest option, turn the box around and read the ingredients listed. Make sure that sugar, syrups or other sugar alternatives are not highly mentioned. Choose cereals that are made from whole grains, oats... Personally, I prefer the Original Kelloggs that is free from additives from time to time and an even better alternative to cereals is oats! . . Nevertheless, cereals should not be included in a person's daily routine. Here's a few awesome tips I learnt from @earthyandy on ways to reduce bloating and improve digestion! 🙌💗 They're honestly game changers 👌 💜 . 1. FOOD COMBINING- eat in the order of how fast the foods digest. SO melons on empty stomach, then fruit, then vegetables (although leafy greens can be eaten with everything), then legumes and grains and if you eat animal products- then dairy then meat (takes 18+ hours to digest meat where fruit takes 30 min). Even if you have a plate full of different food groups it can even help to eat around your plate in this order! This can sound like a big hassle at the start, but it's super easy once you get the hang of it! 🍒 . 2. DRINK SLOWLY- best to enjoy your smoothies and water at a gradual pace rather than gulp them down in one go, so they too can have a chance to be digested properly. 💦 . 3. COOK CRUCIFEROUS VEGGIES- broccoli, cauliflower, brussle sprouts, cabbage. These veggies have the same sugars that beans have which makes them gassy, but cooking them helps a lot. Even massaging cabbage with lemon helps. 🥦 . 4. Stay away from processed foods (yep, this is a big one! 😉) including those misleadingly so-called "healthy" ones labelled vegan, gluten free etc. Once your digestion is on point then try adding in things and see how you feel. 🍟 . 5. CHEW YOUR FOOD WELL- chewing is the first step to digestion, so making sure you do a good job at it will help a lot! 😁 . 7. LIMIT SALT- You will likely notice a difference in a couple of days not only in your belly but your face and body, if you cut out iodised (table) salt & salty foods. 🍟 . 8. Consider taking a pre/probiotic (natural foods to get this in are things like sauerkraut, kimchi, kombucha, plain coconut yoghurt, miso, etc). I aim to take a probiotic supplement regularly to be consistent. ❤ . Whoa that was a lot of info! I hope it helps! Let me know if you have any questions! Oh oh oh! Also! While counting your calories may be the most efficient route to take to reach your weight loss goals, it isn’t the only way to go about it. Here are 10 simple changes you can utilize to help you on your journey. Some of these may seem very obvious, like trying to get more steps in or eating more vegetables. But something that may be less obvious is allowing yourself to eat whatever you want. Of course there is a balance to be had, and you shouldn’t eat a box of cookies every day. But if you are really wanting a fresh baked chocolate chip cookie one day, you should have it. Depriving yourself forever is just not sustainable. As counter-intuitive as it might sound, allowing yourself to eat food you love will help you stay on track. Liquid calories are where a lot of people get tripped up. It may not seem like much, but the creamer and/or sugar in your coffee can really add up if you have it every day. If sugar substitutes aren’t your thing, try to limit the sweetener you are using and save your calories to fill up with actual food. I don’t recommend weighing yourself every day. Why? Because it’s a source of stress and discouragement for many. The scale WILL fluctuate, sometimes by 5-10 pounds of water weight, but that’s often a hard pill to swallow. If you find yourself discouraged by the number on the scale, weigh yourself only occasionally to check in on your progress. And please, if nothing else, just avoid the latest diet “secret”. My client Sahill is nailing it right now despite juggling time with his studies to be a doctor. Today’s breakfast was inspired by @ieatnotcheat ‘s food idea which was proats! It’s oats with egg whites and protein powder. Unfortunely I don’t have any eggs at home but I did use some chocolate protein powder, which I’ve never had in oats before! Surprisingly, it was quite alright. Peanut butter protein balls have a satiating combination of protein, good carbs, healthy fats and are high in fibre. Ingredients: *1 cup rolled oats *1 tablespoon honey *1 tablespoon flaxseed mix *1 tablespoon LSA mix *3 tablespoons peanut butter *1/2 cup, around 15 pitted prunes *1/2 teaspoon cinnamon *1 teaspoon concentrated natural vanilla extract *1-2 tablespoons of water Method: 1. Place all ingredients in a food processor to combine. 2. Pour mixture into a bowl. 3. With your hands knead the dough until well combined. Form dough into 12-14 even balls. 4. Store peanut butter protein balls in the fridge up to 7 days in an airtight container or you can freeze them for longer. Enjoy!
