Post workout smoothie - what a great color! Chocolate protein powder Frozen beets Frozen blueberries Chia seeds Power blend (greens) Cacao nibs Water, almond milk & ice I have been having some digestion issues lately and having a smoothie for breakfast is a great way to help your digestion since the food is broken down by the blender! I also live how you can add veggies & greens in the morning and still have it taste like chocolate! I would have added 1/2 banana as well but I already ate that when I came in from shoveling the driveway before my workout.

You guys probably haven’t noticed, but in my recipes, even in smoothies, protein bars and breakfast bowls like this one, I have NEVER used protein powder. First off, no one needs it! If you’re consuming enough calories each day, you’re almost certainly consuming more than you’re daily protein requirement. Protein does not help you gain muscle mass unless you’re actually putting in the work! Excess protein in your body doesn’t benefit you. If you’re not consuming enough calories in general, eat more whole foods and don’t buy protein powders. They’re often expensive and nutritionally imbalanced. But that’s not all! The effects of protein isolate powders are not fully researched yet, but there is reason to believe that protein isolates may be a carcinogen. Many brands contain toxic chemicals (such as BPA) that have negative short term and long term effects. Due to not being a whole food, and being unnaturally high in protein and calories, it is easy to consume far too much, and can cause digestive troubles, and lead to weight gain, blood sugar spikes and kidney issues. Scariest part? The FDA doesn’t regulate protein powders, as they are a dietary supplement, not a drug OR a food, technically. This means that the company/distributor of the protein powder is solely responsible for the safety, ingredients and chemicals in their products before putting them on the market. Long story short, my message is the same as always! Eat some vegetables, fruits, legumes, whole grains, seeds, nuts, pulses, oats, even dark chocolate...you’ll get plenty of protein. The long term effects of too much protein, particularly from protein isolates aren’t worth it. Just eat ENOUGH and you’ll be fine 💕 For protein, have a paleo plant based breakfast bowl like I did today! Chia pudding, with berries, nuts, almond butter, hemp hearts and cinnamon. Super quick dinner this evening! I wanted to share this image I came across whilst looking back through some vintage HWK recipes! • This was the first ever smoothie I made and photographed 6 years ago today! It looks very rudimentary and I hope that my photography skills have improved since then but I just love this pic. Way back then, I named my kitchen ‘Holly’s Detox Kitchen’, but it didn’t feel right and I wanted to portray and create something that reflected the past few tricky years. ‘Wholesome’ just sounded right and it stuck! • 1 year later, I bumped into @iandrawsthings and in about 5 minutes, he drafted the first sketch of my logo. I feel this was the real beginning of what I had been envisioning and I haven’t looked back. It goes to show the importance of creating eye-catching and memorable visuals to support your mission! • I am really excited to see what 2020 holds for HWK as I will soon have a newborn baby. Hallo meine Lieben. Heute habe ich einen kleinen Küchentipp für euch. Habt ihr schon mal Zitronen püriert? Ich hab den Tipp aus dem Kochbuch von Dr. Michael Greger. Ich habe Zitronen geschält und die ganze Frucht (die Kerne hab ich vorher entfernt) püriert und portionsweise eingefroren. Durch das Pürieren erhält man viel mehr Vitamine, als wenn man die Frucht einfach nur auspresst, weil man das Fruchtfleisch mitverwendet. Ich dachte das könnte vielleicht den einen oder anderen von euch auch interessieren. My very first recipe! Don’t think a vegan cookbook is just smoothies, but there are three in the breakfast section. We‘ve just recently got the Thermomix TM6 and I tried that by trying all of the smoothies in the book. This one consists of oranges, apples, lemon, ginger and spices. It‘s kind of spicy and you need to take your time drinking it, but I kind of liked it. It‘s probably an ideal post-workout drink to make you feel energized and healthy. 🇳🇿New Zealand #Vegan Cauliflower Schnitzel🇳🇿Whenever I go overseas, going to the supermarket is my hobby – so much fun!😅Especially when I’m checking out what sort of #plantbased products are available, it can get very interesting. Plus having products in mind while you’re travelling is quite handy!🌏 I found a vegan #glutenfree cauliflower schnitzel in a supermarket which I have never seen in Australia - less processed! 🌱 Using real vegetables is always better than eating something with vegetable protein where you don’t know what exactly it is… I pan fried the cauliflower schnitzel and served it with fresh veggies that I got from a farmer’s market. I cooked cabbage with olive oil, salt and tomato 🍅🧂 and lastly shallow fried the potato. #veganburger at Bayside restaurant in Russel NZ 🇳🇿Finding #vegan meals during a trip can be challenging if limited research is done beforehand. Well, I definitely didn’t have much time because going to NZ during the Christmas break was a last minute decision😅Luckily, I found vegan meals at cafés and restaurants in NZ that are fabulous! 🌿 I found vegan burger @baysiderussell right in front of Russel bay. Sabaidee from Vientiane!!! We found our little vegan paradise here @thelivinglibrary_oflaos! The Food couldn‘t taste any better, the presentation was beautiful and the service so kind.. we had fresh juices and wheatgrass shots, mushroom curry, Baguette and a delicious salad with papaya and banana blossoms... 😋😋😋 the Restaurant is located in an old villa and surrounded by a beautiful little garden- a calm oasis in Vientiane! Heute schien richtig lange die Sonne, und obwohl es kalt war, hatte die Hunde richtig Bock auf einen ausgiebigen Spaziergang. Die zwei Ladys sind nämlich richtige Schönwetterhunde. 😁 Zum Aufwärmen gab es eine ausgiebige Kuschelrunde auf der Couch für die Hunde und für uns eine leckere Gemüsesuppe. There’s just something so satisfying about a clean out the fridge meal. Not only does it reduce food waste but it’s often combinations I wouldn’t usually think of. And somehow they always seem to be some of the yummiest meals. This bowl was no exception 👇👇 Sauteed onion, shishito peppers, veggie sausage and quinoa, seasoned with soy seasoning and nutritional yeast. Fresh side of the bowl was chopped leafy greens, cucumber, avocado, sauerkraut and chopped Brazil nuts. Drizzled the whole bowl with garlic infused olive oil. Also warmed up a bowl of split pea soup that had been sitting in the back of my cupboard forever. It was warm and cozy and perfect for this grey day ☺️🍝👏 It also hit all the nutritional profiles I try to hit when making any meal. The balance of macros 👉protein, carbs and fat. But the most important thing I look at when making any meals is the micronutrients. Those ingredients that act as vitamins. Like greens for vitamins A, C and K. Vegan Bolognese-it‘s worth to try it! I spiced it with Chili and herbs, fried it with onions and garlic and it tasted very similar to the „real“. The proteins come from wheat, peas and soy. JUICES! As the weather gets warmer one of the simplest refreshers you can serve up is a fresh fruit and veggie juice. I have a really simple juicer from @kmartaus that I just shove a bunch of carrots 🥕 oranges 🍊 cube of ginger and what I love doing is throwing a couple of frozen passionfruit or frozen lime juice cubes in there for zing 🍋 (you can buy from limes or frozen passionfruit from grocery stores) SAH GOOD
